Making Minds Stronger at Mexico Middle School.

Due to the recent snow day, the last day of school will now by May 23, 2018.  This means Promotion has been moved to May 23, 2018.  The date of Promotion would only change if we had two more snow days.  We look forward to #MakingMindsStronger in May!

8th Grade parents - please be sure you have turned in your Promotion Name slip to the school.  This is how you let us know what you would like printed on the promotion certificate and announced in the promotion ceremony.  If we do not receive a form back from you, we will use the full official name in the directory.

Mexico Middle School

Mexico Middle School is proud to serve Mexico’s 6-8th grade students by executing our mission with fidelity daily:

Making Minds Stronger

Within our walls you will find first class teams of teachers and students working and learning together.  MMS faculty and staff are dedicated to helping our students grow into successful young adults.  Our vision for all of our students:

Educating, Engaging, & Empowering Students to Become Lifelong Learners

To drive our purpose we have two building goals for the 2017-2018 school year.

Goal 1:  75% of MMS students will meet their individualized reading goal by the end of the 2017 - 2018 school year.

Some of the action steps for this goal include:

  • Department Chairs participating in professional development with a focus on academic language as well as reading strategies and monitor implementation in departments.
  • Teachers will be doing a book study by Douglas Fisher, Nancy Frey and John Hattie that supports a specific set of instructional routines and strategies to match student's current levels of learning.  It focuses on analyzing the impact of these routines and modifying actions to improve learning.

Goal 2:  84% of MMS students will fall in the first tier of the behavioral triangle, earning zero to one discipline referrals, during the 2017 - 2018 school year.

Some of the action steps for this goal include:

  • Implementation of the Social Skills Curriculum, Second Steps.
  • Student participation in school belonginess survey.
  • Continued partnership with the Rose Behavior Center and the University of Missouri to work on tier 2 interventions that include small group social skills groups.

MMS Activities:

Students, are you interested in reading, do you love service projects?  Then you may be interested in joining the ASTRA club at MMS.  See Mrs. Strunk for details.

Attendance: Thank you for realizing the importance of school attendance and getting to class on time!  These two things translate to you being successful in your job performance in life!

The March Attendance Incentive runs from March 1 through March 28.  Students who achieve 100 percent attendance will get to get a Bus Ride to Town.  This is a very popular incentive, so work hard for this one students!

Cheer: If you are an 8th grader wishing to try out for High School Cheer, pick up a Cheer packet from the office.  You must have a physical on file.  Cheer clinic starts on March 13 at the High School.  Tryouts will start on March 29th at 6:00 pm.

Ear buds:
If you are in need of ear buds or have lost yours, we have a limited supply available for purchase up in the front office for $2.00 a pair.  See Ms. Abbie for yours!

Fees:  Parents, please checks your student's fee in the portal and contact the school with any questions.  Any 8th grader with an outstanding fee will not be allowed to practice promotion or walk across the stage for 8th grade promotion.

Summer School:  The Mexico School District will be offering Summer School starting Wednesday, May 30th through Tuesday, June 26th.  Summer school will run the regular school day schedule for each location.  The program will serve all grade levels, kindergarten through 12th.  Remember that summer school grade is the grade level that student will be going in to.

Look for information to come home early April with your student.  Questions regarding summer school should be directed to Dr. Larry Nelson's office at 573-581-3773 x2404.

Track:  Track practice is underway.  Today's practice will be MHS.  Be sure you know your bus assignment.

If you want personalization (names/stamped/icons, etc.) on your yearbook you must order by today, February 23.  You may still order yearbooks without personalization after that date.

MMS Handbook:

Parents, please be sure that you take time to read and review the Middle School Handbook.  Our handbook is an important part of Middle School life.  It has our Vision, Mission and policies within.  There is lots of room for students use for schedules, homework and hall passes.   We believe these handbooks help our students succeed in school by helping to keep them organized and focused.  Your partnership helps us to live our Vision - "Education, Engaging, & Empowering Students to Become Lifelong Learners."

MMS School Arrival Plans:

Our school opens at 7:30 am.  Only those students who ride a Mexico School bus may enter earlier.  If this condition does not apply to you, do not enter our campus until 7:30 am.   Parents, please have this as part of your morning routine as we do not have supervision for your children until this time.  Students can not be standing around outside the building unsupervised.
